BIO Kristy Hughes (b. 1987, Waxahachie, TX) is a sculptor whose work embraces personal conceptions of empowerment, gratitude, and the fundamental act of paying close attention. Her practice is influenced by class, religion, and her Hispanic, Indigenous, and German lineage. She holds an MFA in Printmaking from Indiana University and MA and BA in Studio Art from Eastern Illinois University. Awarded a 2022-23 Visual Arts Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA, Hughes has also been an artist-in-residence at ChaNorth Artist Residency, Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, Liquitex Residency at Residency Unlimited, The Studios at MASS MoCA, and has received two full-fellowships to attend the Vermont Studio Center. Recent exhibitions include The Sculpture Center in Cleveland, OH, Soft Times Gallery, San Francisco, CA, Wassaic Project, Wassaic, NY, in addition to exhibitions at universities in Vermont, North and South Carolina, and Indiana. Her work has been featured in I Like Your Work, Maake Magazine, and New American Paintings. Hughes is the Residency Coordinator for the Elizabeth Murray Artist Residency and Lecturer at the University of Vermont in Burlington.
